PERMABOND 170

Main features

  • Fast 15-Second Fixture
  • High-Viscosity Gap Bonding
  • Sensitive-Plastic Bonding Formulation

Product Description

PERMABOND 170 is a single-part, high-viscosity methyl cyanoacrylate adhesive for rapid room-temperature bonding. It reaches fixture strength in about 15 seconds on steel, Buna N rubber, and phenolic surfaces, while a maximum gap fill of 0.38 mm gives useful tolerance for close-fitting assemblies. The formulation is designed particularly for metal bonding and develops strong bonds on steel, aluminum, brass, and stainless steel. It is also formulated to be less aggressive toward sensitive plastics, including polycarbonate and ABS, expanding its fit beyond conventional metal joints.

Key features

  • 15-Second Fixture on Common Substrates: Fixture strength is typically reached in 15 seconds on steel, Buna N rubber, and phenolic.
  • 0.38 mm Gap Capability: The high-viscosity adhesive has a maximum gap fill of 0.38 mm.
  • Sensitive-Plastic Formulation: The methyl cyanoacrylate is formulated to be less aggressive toward sensitive plastics such as polycarbonate and ABS.

Applications

Bonding metals, plastics, and elastomers, including assemblies involving sensitive plastics where this grade is specified.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
