Main features

  • 110-Minute Open Time
  • 5,500 mPa s Viscosity
  • 100% Solids Content

Product Description

LOCTITE UR 8540 is a one-component, solvent-free liquid polyurethane laminating adhesive that moisture cures without a component-mixing step. Typical uncured properties include 1.08 g/cm^3 density, 100% solids, and 5,500 mPa s viscosity at 25 deg C. At 24 deg C, typical open time is 110 minutes and typical press time is 140 minutes. The adhesive can be applied by bead extrusion or manual troweling. Because cure depends on moisture, at least one substrate must be porous or perforated. Pressing is required during moisture cure to maintain contact between the laminated elements.

Key features

  • Lamination Open Time: Typical open time is 110 minutes at 24 deg C.
  • Application Rheology: Typical uncured viscosity is 5,500 mPa s at 25 deg C.
  • Solvent-Free Solids: Typical uncured solids content is 100%.

Applications

Sandwich-panel lamination with wood, lauan, fiberboard, particle board, plywood, FRP, EPS foam, PU foam, and primed metals; structural lamination for RVs, motor homes, and trailers.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
