LOCTITE 5999

Main features

  • Blow-Out-Resistant Powertrain Gasketing
  • Non-Corrosive Silicone Gasket Sealing
  • Thixotropic Powertrain Gasket Application

Product Description

LOCTITE SI 5999 is a one-component grey oxime RTV silicone gasketing sealant for automotive powertrain service, manufacturing and rebuild operations. The thixotropic paste reduces migration after application and cures by room temperature vulcanizing. The sealant is non-corrosive and blow-out resistant. Typical uncured specific gravity is 1.45 at 20 deg C, while the cured material reaches at least 2.4 N/mm^2 tensile strength and at least 100% elongation after one week at 25 deg C and 50 +/- 5% RH.

Key features

  • Powertrain gasketing: Designed for automotive powertrain service, manufacturing and rebuild operations.
  • Blow-out resistance: The non-corrosive sealant resists blow-out.
  • Thixotropic application: The paste reduces migration after application to the substrate.

Applications

Automotive powertrain gasketing in service, manufacturing and rebuild operations.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
