LOCTITE 5905

Main features

  • Non-Slump Flange Bead Control
  • High-Elongation Cured Gasket
  • Engine-Fluid Flange Gasketing

Product Description

LOCTITE SI 5905 is a one-part, black oxime RTV silicone for form-in-place gasketing, sealing, and selected bonding of rigid or flexible flange covers. The thixotropic, non-corrosive paste is nonslumping, maintains a pronounced bead profile, and is designed for easy dispensing. At 25 deg C, typical specific gravity is 1.2 to 1.4; typical ISO 7390 flow is no more than 0.5 mm after 2 minutes, and extrusion rate is 200 to 380 g/min at 0.62 MPa. Typical skin-over time is 12 to 30 minutes at 25 +/- 2 deg C and 50 +/- 5% RH. After a 7-day cure at 25 deg C and 50 +/- 5% RH, typical cured properties include Shore A 39, at least 250% elongation, and at least 1.6 N/mm^2 tensile strength. The sealant resists most engine fluids but may not suit long-term ethylene glycol contact.

Key features

  • Bead-height control: Thixotropic, nonslumping paste has typical ISO 7390 flow of no more than 0.5 mm after 2 minutes.
  • High cured elongation: Typical cured elongation is at least 250% after 7 days at 25 deg C / 50 +/- 5% RH.
  • Engine-fluid gasketing: Designed for flange sealing with good resistance to most engine fluids.

Applications

Gasketing, sealing, and bonding rigid or flexible flange covers in metal or plastic, including timing covers and oil sumps.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
