LOCTITE 5770

Main features

  • High-Temperature Steam Thread Sealing
  • High-Pressure Steel Joint Sealing
  • Medium-Strength Anaerobic Locking

Product Description

LOCTITE 5770 is a high-temperature, medium-strength anaerobic dimethacrylate sealant for metal threaded pipes and fittings in industrial service. Its high-viscosity thixotropic paste is particularly suited to steel joints requiring both high-temperature and high-pressure resistance. At 25 deg C, typical specific gravity is 1.27 and typical cone-and-plate viscosity is 30,000 to 90,000 mPa s at 50 s^-1. Typical removal torque after 72 hours at 22 deg C is 74 N m on 3/8 in malleable iron tees and steel plugs pre-torqued to 27 N m. The product also sealed 100 psi air after a 5-minute cure in an ASTM D6396 fitting test and has been tested for steam resistance at temperatures up to 280 deg C.

Key features

  • High-temperature steel sealing: Designed for steel threaded joints where high-temperature and high-pressure resistance is required.
  • Early-cure pressure sealability: 3/8 in NPT malleable iron tees and steel plugs sealed 100 psi air after 5 minutes of cure at 22 deg C in an ASTM D6396 test.
  • High-temperature steam testing: Forged-steel NPT steam assemblies were tested at temperatures up to 280 deg C and pressures up to 6.4 MPa.

Applications

Sealing metal threaded pipes and fittings, including industrial steam service.

Dimethacrylate ester
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.
1.27
Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
