LOCTITE 564

Main features

  • Lubricated Pipe Thread Assembly
  • High-Viscosity Thread Sealing
  • Low-Strength Anaerobic Locking

Product Description

LOCTITE 564 is a one-part, high-viscosity methacrylate thread sealant for locking and sealing close-fitting metal pipes and fittings. The white to off-white paste cures anaerobically when confined between metal surfaces, while its uncured lubricating properties facilitate assembly and torque tightening of piping components. At 25 deg C, typical specific gravity is 1.17 and typical Brookfield RVF viscosity is 49,500 to 132,000 mPa s at 20 rpm with spindle 7. Typical breakaway torque after 72 hours at 22 deg C is 34 N m on 3/8 NPT steel pipe tees and plugs pre-torqued to 27 N m by ASTM D6396. The cured material provides low-strength locking and sealing for the threaded metal connection.

Key features

  • Assembly lubrication: Uncured lubricating properties facilitate pipe-thread assembly and torque tightening.
  • High-viscosity paste: Typical Brookfield RVF viscosity is 49,500 to 132,000 mPa s at 25 deg C with spindle 7 at 20 rpm.
  • Low-strength anaerobic cure: Cures in close-fitting metal threads to provide low-strength locking and sealing.

Applications

Locking and sealing tapered metal pipe threads and fittings.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.
1.17
Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
