LOCTITE 5113

Main features

  • Immediate Moderate-Pressure Sealing
  • Wide -51 to 149 deg C Range
  • Metal Pipe and Flange Sealing

Product Description

LOCTITE 5113 is a one-component, solvent-based, non-curing thread sealant for general-purpose sealing of metal pipes, fittings and flanges. At 25 deg C, the off-white viscous paste has a typical specific gravity of 1.28 and Brookfield viscosity of 35,000 to 45,000 mPa s. It withstands temperatures from -51 to 149 deg C and can seal properly tightened fittings immediately against moderate pressures. Typical uses include water pipes and lines carrying 10% alkali, ethylene glycol, petroleum or lubricating oil.

Key features

  • Non-curing paste: The one-component solvent-based paste remains non-curing.
  • Immediate moderate-pressure seal: Properly tightened fittings seal immediately against moderate pressures.
  • Wide temperature range: The stated service range is -51 to 149 deg C.

Applications

Thread sealing metal pipes, fittings and flanges, including water-pipe service.

Proprietary polymeric material dispersed in isopropyl alcohol
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
