LOCTITE 4211

Main features

  • Black Toughened Bondline
  • Impact and Peel Resistance
  • Heat and Humidity Resistance

Product Description

LOCTITE 4211 is a one-part, black ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive toughened with elastomers for improved impact, peel, heat, and humidity resistance. Its high-viscosity profile measures 1,700 to 3,450 mPa s at 20 rpm and 25 deg C. A 0.05 mm thin gap is the preferred bondline. Atmospheric moisture initiates cure; fixture time varies from 10 seconds on nitrile rubber to 240 seconds on zinc dichromate under the stated conditions. With 24 hours of cure at 22 deg C, grit-blasted steel lap shear is 25 N/mm^2. Applications include bonding metals, plastics, and rubbers.

Key features

  • Black Toughened Bondline: Elastomer toughening adds impact and peel resistance.
  • Heat and Humidity Resistance: The cured bond has improved resistance to both environments.
  • High-Viscosity Thin-Gap Bonding: The product performs best in thin 0.05 mm bond gaps.

Applications

Applications include bonding metals, plastics, and rubbers where impact, peel, heat, or humidity resistance is required.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Volume resistivity, also called volume resistance, bulk resistance or bulk resistivity is a thickness dependent measurement of the resistivity of a material perpendicular to the plane of the surface.
