LOCTITE 40H

Main features

  • Ultra-Low-Viscosity Wicking
  • Fast EPDM Fixturing
  • Preassembled Plastic Bonding

Product Description

LOCTITE 40H is a one-part ethyl cyanoacrylate wicking adhesive for preassembled and close-fitting parts. Its 2 to 9 mPa s viscosity at 22 deg C allows it to flow into fitted plastic assemblies and transformer laminations, while atmospheric moisture initiates cure. Fixture time on EPDM is <=5 seconds under the stated test conditions. At least 24 hours of cure is required for full chemical/solvent resistance. Aluminum-to-aluminum tensile strength is 25.5 N/mm^2 following a 24-hour cure at 22 deg C. Applications include wicking into preassembled plastic parts, bonding transformer laminations, and locking fitted components.

Key features

  • Ultra-Low-Viscosity Wicking: Viscosity is 2 to 9 mPa s at 22 deg C.
  • Fast EPDM Fixture: Fixture time on EPDM is <=5 seconds under the stated conditions.
  • Preassembled Plastic Bonding: The wicking grade flows into fitted plastic parts.

Applications

Applications include wicking into preassembled plastic parts, bonding transformer laminations, and locking close-fitted components.

Refractive index
The refractive index determines how much the path of light is bent, or refracted, when entering a material. It is calculated by taking into account the velocity of light in vacuum compared to the velocity of light in the material. The refractive index calculation can be affected by the wavelength of light and the temperature of the material. Even though it is usually reported on standard wavelengths it is advised to check the TDS for the precise test parameters.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
