HARDENER HW 5541

Main features

  • AW 5540 10 to 15 Minute Work Life
  • Automatic Mixing and Dispensing
  • SMC, Fiberglass, Plastic, and Metal Bonding

Product Description

ARATHANE HARDENER HW 5541 is the red liquid hardener component used with ARATHANE AW 5540 polyurethane adhesive resin. Typical component properties include specific gravity of 1.3 and viscosity of 20,000 cP at 25 deg C. In the AW 5540/HW 5541 system, the resin and hardener mix at 100:95 by weight or 1:1 by volume and provide a 10 to 15 minute work life at 25 deg C. The paired system is designed for automatic mixing and dispensing and is used for bonding SMC, fiberglass-reinforced plastics, cured plastics, and metals. Cured-system performance applies to the complete AW 5540/HW 5541 system rather than the hardener alone.

Key features

  • AW 5540 Work Life: At 25 deg C, the paired system has a work life of 10 to 15 minutes with 100:95 mixing by weight or 1:1 by volume.
  • Automatic Mixing and Dispensing: The paired adhesive is designed for automated equipment with easy pumping and sag resistance.
  • SMC, Fiberglass, Plastic, and Metal Bonding: The paired polyurethane adhesive system is used to bond these substrate types.

Applications

Hardener component for the AW 5540/HW 5541 system used to bond SMC, fiberglass-reinforced plastics, cured plastics, and metals.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
