3M 9690

Main features

  • Dimensionally Stable PET Carrier for Die Cutting
  • 3M 300MP+ Acrylic Adhesive
  • 121 deg C Short-Term Exposure

Product Description

3M Double Coated Tape 9690+ is a clear double-coated tape with a PET carrier, 3M 300MP+ acrylic adhesive on both sides, and an 83 lb polycoated kraft release liner. Typical total tape thickness is 0.14 mm, or 5.5 mil, excluding the liner. The PET carrier provides dimensional stability for slitting, die cutting, and laminating, while the adhesive bonds many plastics, foams, wood, and felt. Typical temperature exposure limits are up to 121 deg C short term and up to 66 deg C long term. Uses include foam lamination, nameplates, appliques, and decorative trim attachment.

Key features

  • 5.5 mil total tape thickness: The 0.14 mm double-coated construction includes the PET carrier and adhesive layers, not the release liner.
  • PET carrier for converting: The carrier provides dimensional stability during slitting, die cutting, and laminating.
  • Short- and long-term temperature limits: Typical exposure limits are up to 121 deg C short term and up to 66 deg C long term.

Applications

Cellular-phone lens attachment; foam lamination; nameplates; appliques; decorative trim; thermal and sound dampening in electronics and appliances.

Thermal Properties
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
