  • Polycarbonate and Acrylic Bonding
  • FMVSS 212 Crash Tested

Product Description

3M Polyurethane Glass Adhesive Sealant 590 is a one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane paste for bonding glass, acrylic/PMMA, and polycarbonate windows in vehicle and marine assemblies. It requires no mixing and is applied between 5 and 35 deg C, with primer recommended for window bonding. Typical tack-free time is 25 to 40 minutes at 73 deg F and 50% relative humidity; cure progresses at more than 3.5 mm per 24 hours under those conditions. The cured adhesive has typical tensile strength of 10 MPa by ASTM D412 and Shore A hardness 60 to 65 by ASTM C661.

Key features

  • Moisture-cure processing: Typical tack-free time is 25 to 40 minutes at 73 deg F and 50% RH; this is separate from through-thickness cure.
  • 10 MPa tensile strength: Typical cured-material tensile strength is measured by ASTM D412; Shore A hardness is 60 to 65 by ASTM C661.
  • Primed window bonding: Primer is recommended when bonding glass or plastic windows with this one-component polyurethane.

Applications

Structural windshield installations; PMMA windshields; polycarbonate and acrylic bonding; flush-mounted marine and automotive glass.

Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.

General Properties
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.
