Main features

  • High-Solids Water-Based Formula
  • Spray, Brush, or Roll Application
  • Single-Surface Insulation Bonding

Product Description

3M Fastbond Insulation Adhesive 49 is a water-based, high-solids pressure-sensitive adhesive for bonding lightweight insulation, fiberglass, fabric, felt, and foam to metal and wood. Aggressive tack and high initial grab permit single-surface application, while the high-solids formulation limits soak-in. The adhesive can be sprayed, brushed, or rolled and provides open time for positioning insulation after coating. It forms a permanent bond for HVAC fiberglass insulation, general insulation installation, and hanging lightweight fabrics or foam.

Key features

  • Single-surface bonding: Aggressive tack and high initial grab allow adhesive application to one surface before insulation placement.
  • High-solids water-based formulation: The formulation limits soak-in when bonding insulation, fabric, and foam.
  • Spray, brush, or roll coating: The adhesive can be applied with any of these three methods before positioning the lightweight material.

Applications

Insulation installation; HVAC fiberglass insulation; hanging fabric, felt, foam, and related lightweight materials.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
