Main features

  • 121 to 132 deg C Application Range
  • 350 psi Typical Douglas Fir Overlap Shear
  • 40-Second Open Time

Product Description

3M Hot Melt Adhesive 3792LM is a clear, 100% solids thermoplastic hot-melt adhesive applied at 121 to 132 deg C for bonding heat-sensitive materials. Typical viscosity is 10,500 cP at 121 deg C, and typical open time is 40 seconds for a 3.2 mm semicircular bead on a nonmetallic surface at 24 deg C. It bonds wood, plain and coated corrugated board, foams, and many plastics. Typical overlap shear on Douglas fir is 350 psi at 23 deg C, while a separate temperature-resistance test gives 60 deg C under a 14 kPa dead load.

Key features

  • Low-temperature application: The recommended 121 to 132 deg C application range is intended for heat-sensitive bonding materials.
  • 40-second open time: The typical maximum application-to-joining interval uses a 3.2 mm semicircular bead on a nonmetallic surface at 24 deg C.
  • 350 psi Douglas fir overlap shear: Typical bond strength is measured at 23 deg C on Douglas fir.

Applications

Cabinetry and woodworking; coated-paper and polyolefin bonding; furniture and upholstery; foams and other heat-sensitive materials; point-of-purchase displays; general industrial assembly.

Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
>232 °C
Temperature Resistance
Temperature resistance is the maximum temperature that the material or product can withstand for a period of time. The temperatures listed should be considered as guidelines for an operating temperature of about 30 minutes. Typically, the material can withstand much longer times at temperatures about 20°C lower and can withstand much higher temperatures for short, intermittent times.
