3M 1280

Main features

  • 3.6 mil Polyester Tape
  • 33.9 N/100 mm Steel Adhesion
  • Low-Stretch PCB Masking

Product Description

3M Circuit Plating Tape 1280 is a red polyester-film masking tape with a silicone/rubber adhesive for printed circuit board electroplating, solder stripping, and precious-metal finger masking. Its typical 3.6 mil total thickness includes a 0.9 mil backing. The low-stretch film helps control stop-off lines, while the thick adhesive coating reduces plating-solution undercutting between circuit fingers. Typical adhesion to steel is 33.9 N/100 mm by ASTM D3330, and the maximum operating temperature is 155 deg C. The tape can be applied by hand or machine with firm pressure to establish contact.

Key features

  • 3.6 mil total construction: A 0.9 mil polyester backing is combined with a silicone/rubber adhesive coating; thicknesses are typical ASTM D3652 values.
  • 33.9 N/100 mm steel adhesion: Typical adhesion is measured by ASTM D3330 on steel.
  • Plating-process temperature limit: Maximum operating temperature for the tape is 155 deg C.

Applications

Printed circuit board masking during solder stripping and precious-metal finger plating; splicing silicone-treated papers.

Total Thickness
Total thickness is taking into account all the films, coatings, adhesives, release liners and special layers and is the maximum thickness of a film or tape.
91 μm
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
135 %
Tensile Strength (Thin Film)
Tensile strength determines the resistance of a material to break under tension and it measures how much elongating load (or tensile stress) it can handle before fracture. To make it simple, it measures how much force we have to apply when pulling apart a material before it breaks.
