3M 1099L

Main features

  • Approximately 40-Minute Open Time
  • Spray, Brush, or Roller Application
  • Water, Oil, and Fuel Resistance

Product Description

3M Nitrile High Performance Plastic Adhesive 1099L is a lower-viscosity, solvent-based nitrile adhesive for flexible bonds to most vinyls and plastics, excluding polyolefins. Its approximately 40-minute open time provides an interval for joining coated surfaces after spray, brush, or roller application. The adhesive dries at room temperature; optional heat curing can increase bond strength. Finished bonds resist weathering, water, oil, fuels, and plasticizer migration. This combination of coating options, assembly time, and flexible bond behavior suits vinyl upholstery, automotive panel installation, banners, and awnings.

Key features

  • Approximately 40-minute open time: Coated surfaces can be positioned and joined within this assembly window.
  • Spray, brush, or roller application: The lower-viscosity grade can be coated with industrial spray equipment or applied manually.
  • Fluid and plasticizer resistance: Finished bonds resist water, oil, fuels, plasticizer migration, and weathering.

Applications

Bonding most vinyls and plastics except polyolefins; aftermarket automotive panel installation and upholstery; banners and awnings; general industrial and MRO bonding.

Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
